SINGAPORE, November 6, 2019 - One World International School (OWIS), one of the fastest-growing international schools in Singapore, today announced the expansion of its operations in Asia, with the opening of its second campus in Singapore and its first campus in Tokyo, Japan.
The international school market in Singapore is growing at a rate of 1,500 families every year, and this demand is primarily driven by expats who are relocating into Singapore. However, families are now becoming more cost-conscious and are seeking high quality education at a moderate fee offering.
OWIS’s Nanyang campus is currently the fastest-growing international school in Singapore. From 230 students in 2018, the school student body has expanded to 1,200 students in less than 18 months. Annual fees at OWIS range from S$17,000 to S$21,000 - more affordable than most international schools in Singapore, while delivering a high quality of education and curriculum programmes to students.
With the success of their Nanyang campus which is located in the West of Singapore, OWIS is branching out to the East to continue offering children a well-rounded education. Located on Mountbatten Road, the second OWIS campus in Singapore can house up to 180 students, with the student-teacher ratio being 9:1 for every class. The new campus will offer OWIS’s Early Childhood Learning programme for children aged three to six, and will accept registrations from both expatriates and Singapore citizens. Underpinned by the English National Curriculum, OWIS offers an inquiry led, play-based learning programme. On their foundation of kindness, they help children develop physical and social skills through role-playing and discovery-based activities. Delivered in a safe and loving space, this programme will support children as they develop confidence and self-esteem that will carry them into the future as lifelong learners filled with curiosity and a love of learning.
OWIS also offers iPad programmes, internet literacy skills and modern learning methodologies to help scaffold students understanding and facilitate their knowledge and abilities. With the opportunity to interact with peers from over 60 nationalities, children at OWIS will gain a head start in building their multicultural acceptance from a young age. OWIS’s Mountbatten campus will start operations in January 2020.
First overseas campus in Tokyo
The OWIS Tokyo campus is in the Seishincho region of Edogawa district, and registrations in Early Childhood are open to both expatriates and Japanese citizens.
OWIS’s Nanyang campus currently offers the following curricula, and OWIS’s Tokyo campus plans to follow suit.
- The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) for early childhood through Grade 5 which is underpinned by the English National Curriculum;
- Cambridge Secondary Programme for students in Grades 6 to 10, through the IGCSE curriculum, adapted for OWIS’s international population.
- The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for students in Grades 11 and 12.
Commenting on the expansion, Kotaro Tamura, Advisor to One World International School and professor at Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at National University of Singapore, said, “Establishing a second campus in Singapore and expanding into Japan underscores OWIS’s rapid growth as well as consumer appetite in both markets for more institutions that offer a well-rounded learning experience and curriculum for children. The OWIS educational framework delivers this, by encompassing practices and principles that help prepare young learners to become dynamic and innovative leaders who embrace kindness, beginning right from the early childhood classroom, all at a reasonable cost.”
